What does CADR rating mean?

CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate
It stands for volume of air filtered and delivered. Higher the number, faster the filtration rate
CADR number is calculated on three separate measurements viz pollen, tobacco smoke and dust

Will an air purifier cure my asthma or allergies?

Air purifier kills the harmful pollutants in air and enhances the quality of air around us. However, it does not treat the respiratory diseases or any allergic reaction . It can be helpful in diminishing the symptoms though. If the immense heath problem persists, medical consultation is advisable.

What is the outdoor Air Quality Index (AQI) and what does each of the colors mean?

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a medium through general public is informed about the hazardous air contamination. It is segregated into six color code categories and advice is given to go along with it :

PM2.5

Air Quality Index

PM2.5 Health Effects

Precautionary Actions

0 to 12.0

>Good 0 to 50

Little to no risk.

None.

12.1 to 35.4

Moderate 51 to 100

Unusually sensitive individuals may experience respiratory symptoms.

Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.

35.5 to 55.4

Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups 101 to 150

Increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms in sensitive individuals, aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly.

People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should limit prolonged exertion.

55.5 to 150.4

Unhealthy 151 to 200

Increased aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly; increased respiratory effects in general population.

People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should avoid prolonged exertion; everyone else should limit prolonged exertion.

150.5 to 250.4

Very Unhealthy 201 to 300

Significant aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly; significant increase in respiratory effects in general population.

People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should avoid any outdoor activity; everyone else should avoid prolonged exertion.

250.5 to 500.4

Hazardous 301 to 500

Serious aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in persons with cardiopulmonary disease and the elderly; serious risk of respiratory effects in general population.

Everyone should avoid any outdoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children should remain indoors.

• Green : Good. No risk is expected.

• Yellow :
Moderate. Unusually sensitive individuals should consider limiting outdoor exertion.

• Orange :
Unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children, active adults and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit outdoor exertion.

• Red :
Unhealthy. Children, active adults and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid outdoor exertion; all others should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

• Purple :
Very Unhealthy. Children, active adults and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid any and all outdoor exertion; all others should limit outdoor exertion.

• Maroon :
Hazardous. Everyone should avoid all physical activity outdoors.

Can you run an air purifier all the time?

What does ACH stand for?

Air Changes per Hour(ACR) reflects the frequency air is purified by air purifier in an hours time. Lets suppose, ACH value of 8 refers that air is purified 8 times in an hour. ACH ranging from 6-8 is ideal for asthma and other allergic patients.

What does CFM stand for?

Cubic Feet per Minute(CFM ) measures how many cubic feet of air moves through the unit per minute. This helps in selecting the appropriate air purifier for you. Higher the CFM, the better is the function. . Fan speeds, insulation, air flow in the room, furniture in the room, and the amount of pollutants affects the CFM . Calculate the total volume of your space (length x width x height in cubic feet) and divide this number by your desired ACH to derive the ideal CFM.

FOR EXAMPLE:-
CFM  =
18 ft x 24 ft x 8 ft 5 (air exchanges)
CFM =
3456 5
CFM =
691.2

What is a micron?

Micrometer or micron, is one millionth of a meter and approximately 1/25,000th of an inch. It measures the size of airborne particle. Micron can be as small as 0.1 to 0.3 microns, which is considerably smaller than a single strand of human hair that typically measures 30 to 120 microns hence it holds a significance.
